Calle Plaza Principal S/N, Centro, 42980 Zempoala, Hgo., Mexico

In partnership with

The Mexican Association of International Volunteering AC (AMVIAC) participates in the transformation of the country through the integration of International Volunteering in projects organized in Mexico and abroad by civil associations, local governments, communities
and organized groups, with the idea that after this experience they can become
more actively involved in the work of their community.

Description of the Work

This international camp will take place at the Padre Tembleque Aqueduct, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most important 16th-century hydraulic engineering works in Latin America. Built through the collaboration of Indigenous communities and the Franciscan friar Francisco de Tembleque, this monument stretches for more than 45 km across the central Mexican plateau, its monumental arches near Zempoala being among the tallest Renaissance hydraulic structures outside of Europe.

The project's main objective is to contribute to preventive conservation efforts on the Hidalgo section of the aqueduct, promoting community participation, cultural exchange, and international cooperation. All tasks will be carried out in coordination with local authorities and under the specialized technical guidance of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), so no prior experience is required.

Volunteer Activities
Volunteers will take an active role in protecting the cultural landscape through the following actions and fieldwork:

Cleaning and Beautification of the Environment: Removal of trash and debris, and general cleaning of the areas near the aqueduct structures, including graffiti removal to restore the visual value of the surroundings.

Environmental Maintenance: Control and removal of invasive vegetation that could endanger the historical structure.

Reforestation and Natural Barriers: Planting agave plants as a boundary and natural protective barrier for the site, reviving traditional rural practices.

Documentation and Community Engagement: Photographic and documentary record-keeping of the intervention areas, as well as active participation in workshops and heritage awareness activities with local communities.

Accommodation & Food

Accommodation will be in a house provided by a local family and will include everything necessary for your stay and hygiene. Volunteers will assist with food preparation for cultural activities.

AMVIAC (Mexican Association of International Volunteering A.C.) was born on the December the 5th, 2014 at the initiative of Mexican ex-volunteers and professionals wishing to participate in the transformation of the country through the integration of the International Volunteering in projects in Mexico organized by civil associations, municipalities, communities and organized groups. This transformation of Mexico materialises as well by sending Mexican young people to projects abroad with the idea that this experience can, upon their return to the country, encourage them to engage more actively in the work of their community. VISION The association's vision is the transformation of Mexican society, especially youth, giving them opportunities to travel and to live unique experiences as volunteers both in Mexico and abroad participating in projects of general interest and reverting that experience in their communities, schools , families, neighbourhoods, organizations and jobs, for the betterment of our country.
