Notes

Be prepared for physical work involving manual outdoor tasks to be performed regardless of the weather (rain, cold, sun, etc.).

In partnership with

CBB (or “Compagnons Bâtisseurs Belgium”) is a non-profit and youth organization. Its activities aim to enable young people aged 15 to 30 to develop their responsibility and personal skills to become responsible, active, critical and supportive citizens. Volunteering, a permanent international dimension, welcoming diversity and networking characterise the organization’s action. Its usual activities include organising international workcamps and volunteering teams, volunteering weekends, youth exchanges, hosting, sending and supporting volunteers through the European Solidarity Corps, etc.

Description of the Work

This project is built around a network of local partners involved in nature conservation, ecology and/or the environmental transition. During their two-week stay, volunteers will discover different initiatives carried out in and around Marche-en-Famenne and will contribute actively to their implementation.
They may, for example:
help fight invasive species along a river or contribute to the maintenance of a wetland area;
maintain or restore areas dedicated to biodiversity, for example by enhancing ecological corridors;
take part in maintaining the Compagnons Bâtisseurs Garden or a partner organisation’s garden, including autumn planting and preparing the garden for winter;
...
These activities will help volunteers understand how simple, practical actions can contribute to broader environmental challenges: supporting biodiversity, protecting soil and water, improving landscapes and strengthening the resilience of natural environments in the face of environmental changes.
Throughout the different activities, volunteers will also discover local organisations, their projects and the ways in which they contribute to their territory. They will develop practical skills and learn to better observe their environment, use tools, work as a team and take initiative.

Sorry, the project coordinates are not precise enough to be shown on a map.

Accommodation & Food

The volunteers will stay in "La Campagnette", CBB’s building in Marche-en-Famenne. Four bedrooms with bunk beds, a large room for relaxing and eating, a smaller room for activities, a small kitchen and an outdoor space will be available to the volunteers. The volunteers will do their own shopping and prepare their own meals together.

Location & Leisure

Marche-en-Famenne is a small town in the countryside located in the south of the country. You can find everything there: schools, shops, industries, services... The town is surrounded by several industrial estates, but also by woods, fields and small villages where the pace of life remains rural. Liège, Namur and Luxembourg are easily accessible by train in about an hour, Brussels in two. It is also a good base camp to discover the natural heritage of the Ardenne region and to practice outdoor activities.

Host Organization

Compagnons Bâtisseurs asbl is a non-profit organization created in 1977. It is recognized as a youth organization by the ministry from the French Community of Belgium. This association proposes different kinds of voluntary activities to youngsters : work camps in Belgium and abroad (during week ends and during the summer), short, medium and long term voluntary services, leisure activities for and with disabled people. All our activities aim to help the young people to develop theirs abilities in order to integrate actively the society as responsible citizens. The realisation of these activities would not be possible without the participation of a network of around 400 belgian volunteers, 150 volunteers from abroad during summer holidays and a team of eight employees. The organization is also a member of the Alliance of European Voluntary Service Organisations. We participate to the European Programme EVS both as sending and hosting Organization since 1997. www.compagnonsbatisseurs.be
