Monastery Makeover

Združenie kresťanských spoločenstiev mládeže (Association of Christian Youth Communities) is association providing the activities aimed at all young people regardless of their origin, gender, race, nationality, religion, social status, and political convictions. The main areas of focus are personality development through workshops and self-development seminars. The association also supports the creation of small communities that promote volunteering, personal and spiritual growth. It also focuses on professionalization in the field of new trends in working with young people and finding inclusive solutions.


Description of the Work

The aim of the voluntary help is to renovate and revitalize the monastery's surroundings, which are used most of the year by young people from various communities across Slovakia, thereby improving the environment for all youth events. Focus of the help is manual work around the monastery and garden work. Volunteers will paint the fence in front of the main entrance and fences around the monastery. They will clean the garden, sidewalks, take care about the fruit trees and clean the surrounding of monastery as well. In case of bad weather volunteers will help with the day-to-day running of the accommodation facility, which includes regular cleaning of rooms, preparing rooms and changing bed linen, vacuuming and washing floors, furniture, and windows. Assist in the kitchen and laundry room, help with serving food and washing dishes. There are no special skills required. The working hours will be from Monday to Friday, approximately 8:30 – 15:00, including a lunch break. By participating to this project, you contribute to protecting the local cultural heritage (UN SDG 11).


Accommodation & Food

Volunteers will be accommodated directly in the monastery, which currently serves as accommodation and premises for spiritual retreats, community weekends, educational activities, and various types of meetings. They will be accommodated in 4 shared rooms for 2-3 people. There are 2 bathrooms and 2 toilets available. Volunteers will sleep on beds. A sleeping bag is not necessary. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided by the local partner. On request, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free meals can be provided. Volunteers can enjoy free time in the garden of the monastery. The Wifi is available.


Location & Leisure

Kostolna-Zariecie is a village and municipality in Trencin District in the Trencin Region of north-western Slovakia. The closest city Trencin (5 km) is the European Capital of Culture 2026. The volunteers can enjoy the old historical centre of Trencin, the castles Trencin Castle or Beckov. The village is surrounded by beautiful nature with many touristic routes and hiking opportunities. Or they can visit local farm in Lubina.


Host Organization

INEX Slovakia is a non-profit, non-governmental organization founded in 1993. Its main aim is to play an active role within the international youth exchange that promotes international understanding, intercultural learning and tolerance. INEX Slovakia organizes activities that are focused on youth mobility and non-formal education and international volunteering. We organize different voluntary activities like international voluntary workcamps, trainings, seminars, various activities on national level, regular meetings of non-formal groups, workshops, activities for children with difficult background etc. We are a sending, hosting and coordinating organization within European Voluntary Service. These activities provide an opportunity for young people of different national and cultural background to live and work together; facilitate personal growth and a personal responsibility. INEX Slovakia became a member of the Alliance of European Voluntary Service Organizations in 1993. Apart of the Alliance INEX Slovakia is an official partner of Service Civil International (SCI), co-operates with organizations associated in Youth Action for Peace (YAP) and other partners. We are member of Youth Council of Slovakia.
