Restaurant Krušnohorské náměstí 38, Hroznětín, 362 33, Czech Republic

In partnership with

This project is organised with a Local action group called “MAS Krušné hory” . They are focused on the cooperation with municipalities, non-profits, entrepreneurs, and local partners. It is involved in education, community projects, tourism promotion, and volunteer activities focused on environmental and regional development. The main goal of the workcamp is to introduce volunteers to the cultural heritage and natural environment of the Ore Mountains while raising awareness of local history and community work. Through practical conservation and maintenance activities, volunteers gain hands-on experience in heritage preservation and environmental stewardship. The project contributes to SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 15 (Life on Land).

Description of the Work

Volunteers will take part in hands-on conservation and maintenance activities, including gardening and upkeep of the old cemetery, maintenance and minor repair of historic graves, assistance with archaeological research at the local church, and maintenance of paths along the Hroznětín nature trail. The work is mildly physically demanding and suitable for volunteers of different ages and fitness levels. In case of rain, activities will move indoors or under shelter and may include cleaning the community centre, tool maintenance, and support for conservation or community tasks. All tools and protective equipment are provided. The work site is situated at the Jewish cemetery in Hroznětín and is within walking distance from the accommodation, around 5-10 minutes away.

Accommodation & Food

Volunteers will stay in shared apartments for 2–3 people, each with its own kitchenette and bathroom. Beds are provided with duvets and pillows, so no bedding is needed. The apartments include a refrigerator, kitchenette, and Wi-Fi. Bedrooms do not have curtains, so eye masks may be useful. Volunteers prepare their own breakfast and dinner, while lunch is provided by the host organisation.

Location & Leisure

Hroznětín is a small town in the Karlovy Vary region, located about 9 km north of Karlovy Vary, with a population of around 2,200. The town offers basic amenities, including a health centre, a shop, and a pharmacy in nearby Ostrov. It is active in community life and organises various local events. Sports facilities include a football club and a multipurpose sports field with artificial surface. An ATM is available within walking distance, and mobile phone reception is available at the workcamp location.

In Hroznětín and its surroundings, volunteers can enjoy outdoor and cultural activities such as hiking, cycling, and swimming at nearby places like Děpoltovický Pond or the Rolava River, as well as fishing at Velký Pond. Cultural and historical sites in the region include the Jáchymov Royal Mint, Adit No. 1, the Jewish Cemetery, lookout towers, and other natural attractions. These activities offer a balanced mix of recreation, cultural discovery, and exploration of the Ore Mountains’ landscape.
