You will live in our Projekt- und Begegnungsstätte. This is the meeting and project centre of the Vereinigung Junger Freiwilliger e.V (VJF). It is situated in a forest on the banks of the lake Langer See in Berlin. It’s a quiet place in nature, one hour away from central places in Berlin as Alexanderplatz (but there are good public transport connections). The project centre is used as accommodation for different groups of young people and as a holiday resort for school classes.

Description of the Work

Our Community Centre is a place where people of different ages, cultures and backgrounds come together to learn, exchange ideas and build friendships. It hosts educational activities, cultural events and community projects throughout the year. To improve its infrastructure and ensure its long-term sustainability, the centre is being connected to the municipal drinking water system. Together with experienced professionals, the volunteers will assist with the excavation and trenching work required to lay the new drinking water pipeline. In the process, participants gain practical insights into construction and infrastructure projects, work as part of a team, and experience how their collective efforts create lasting value for future groups and projects.
*No prior knowledge of construction is required* All tasks will be supervised and assigned according to the participants’ abilities. What’s important is a love for an international project, team spirit and a willingness to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty.

Accommodation & Food

Accomodation:

You will live at the VJF project centre. The cosy bungalows are right next to the lake. You do not need to bring a sleeping back. Bed linen will be provided.

Food:

You will have the chance to prepare your own meals in a small kitchen at the project centre. Please bring recipes and special ingredients such as spices from your home country for some culinary exchange!

Location & Leisure

This will be decided in the group. You can use the facilities at our project centre to play sports (volleyball, table tennis). Of course, you will be able to enjoy the sights and culture (theatres, clubs...) of Berlin and go for an excursion to towns nearby like Potsdam or Oranienburg. You can also bring games, instruments or specialties from your home country.

Appointment

1) S8, direction Grünau, station S-Bahnhof Grünau
You need to work out how to get onto the S8 (green line) which travels to Grünau. Once you have arrived at one of the stations on this line, you must go in the direction of Grünau, and get off at “S-Bahnhof Grünau” station.
2) tram 68, direction “Alt-Schmöckwitz”, station “Adlergestell / Vetschauer Allee”
Across the road from the station there is the tramline 68. There you need to go in the direction of Alt-Schmöckwitz, but you need to get off at the stop “Adlergestell / Vetschauer Allee” (this will take about 10 minutes). Please don’t forget to press the stop button inside the tram to signal that you want to get off.
3) Walk to the “Projekt- und Begegnungsstätte”
Cross the street and walk into the forest until the end of the path, where you will eventually arrive at the gate to the project center with the logo of VJF. Zone Info: The accommodation is in the AB-zone of Berlin city transportation. The airport BER is in the ABC-zone.
