Welcome to Sainte-Croix-du-VerdonOverlooking the turquoise waters of Lake Sainte-Croix, at the gateway to the famous Verdon Gorges, this small Provencal village offers an incredible setting for two weeks of collective adventure under the southern French sun.Surrounded by hills, lavender landscapes and spectacular viewpoints, Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon is the perfect place to enjoy summer differently: mornings spent working together on a useful local project, afternoons by the lake, and evenings shared with volunteers from all over the world.Whether you enjoy hiking, swimming, sunsets, outdoor sports or simply meeting new people in an exceptional natural environment, this project offers a unique mix of volunteering, holidays and intercultural exchange.


Description of the Work

The municipality of Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon wants to restore and improve some of its traditional stone pathways, which are an important part of the village s identity and Provencal heritage.127919; Your mission: help build and restore a traditional dry-stone calade, a typical stone-paved pathway found in many historic villages of southern France.128736;65039;Guided by a professional instructor specialized in dry-stone construction, you will progressively learn:9679; how to prepare the ground;9679; how to select and position stones;9679; how to build part of a traditional pathway as a team;9679; the basics of traditional dry-stone techniques.No previous experience is needed. The project is mainly about learning by doing, teamwork and sharing a collective experience.Work will only take place in the mornings, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., leaving the afternoons free to enjoy the lake, outdoor activities and group life.


Accommodation & Food

Throughout the project, you will stay in tents at the municipal campsite of Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon, only a short walk from the lake.9978; The campsite includes showers and sanitary facilities for the group.129749; Meals will be prepared collectively by the volunteers in a friendly and international atmosphere. An outdoor dining area will allow the group to share meals together and fully enjoy summer camp life.Daily life will be organized collectively: cooking, shopping, meals, activities and camp organization will all be shared among participants.Expect real summer evenings by the lake: outdoor dinners, music, games, sunsets, conversations and unforgettable moments with young people from different countries.

Outside working hours, Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon offers the perfect setting to fully enjoy summer and outdoor activities.127946; Swimming and water activities Lake Sainte-Croix is located just a few minutes from the campsite. You will be able to swim in its turquoise waters or enjoy activities such as canoeing, paddleboarding or pedal boating.129406; Hiking and Verdon landscapes Many hiking trails cross the surrounding hills and offer breathtaking views over the lake and the Verdon Natural Regional Park.127749; Summer atmosphere and group life Afternoons and evenings will be filled with collective activities: swimming, volleyball, petanque, games, shared dinners, group activities and relaxing moments by the lake.127960;65039;Discover Provencal villages You will also have the opportunity to visit beautiful nearby villages such as Bauduen, Aiguines, Les Salles-sur-Verdon or the famous Moustiers-Sainte-Marie.127855; Local culture and traditions Markets, lavender fields, olive oil, honey and local specialties are all part of the Provencal experience you will discover during the project.


Requirements

International workcamps are based on teamwork, respect, openness and collective living.No technical skills are required, but motivation, curiosity and willingness to participate in group life are essential.Please note that the project involves outdoor living and camping during the whole stay.

Host Organization

Jeunesse et Reconstruction is a non profit organisation that has been developing, since 1948, activities towards young people: voluntary workcamps, more than 1000 projects proposed in France and abroad thanks to our partner organisations) mid and long-term voluntary service programmes, training for volunteers Through the organisation of these activities, we wish to promote values against all discrimination, for solidarity, commitment and voluntary work. A team of staff and a group of active volunteers work all year long for the setting up and follow up of the association activities. The head office is responsible for : The co-ordination of the regional delegations, the relations with the foreign partners, the fund-raising, the publications and external communication of the association, the inscriptions of the volunteers on the different programmes, the setting up and follow up of the long term programmes, the organisation of the information sessions and the training sessions for volunteers. The regional delegations of Jeunesse et Reconstruction The three regional delegations of the association are responsible for the setting up and follow up of the workcamp activity in France. They are in charge of the contacts with the local partners, the preparation of the applications for funds of the activities. They ensure the logistic and pedagogic follow up of the teams of volunteers, while the activities are taking place on the spot. The regional delegations also take part in the training made for campleaders and workcamp co-ordinators, and are involved in the follow up of some projects of long term voluntary work at a local level. Agreements and networking Jeunesse et Reconstruction is registered by the French Ministry of Youth and Sports. The association is a member of COTRAVAUX (French co-ordination), the Alliance of European Voluntary Service Organisation, of the C.C.I.V.S. (UNESCO), of the I.C.Y.E. Federation.
