Wild & Cosy: Wetlands Glamping Weekend

Vlastišov, Czech Republic

Notes

Study part: Volunteers will take part in a lecture focused on wetlands and ponds, learning why these habitats are among the most endangered in the country. The session will explain the importance of restoring and protecting wetlands, how they help retain water in the landscape, and which plant and animal species depend on them, linking the theory directly to the site they are helping to care for.

In partnership with

The workcamp is organised by a group of local volunteers dedicated to strengthening community life through creativity, culture, tradition, and nature conservation. They organise events for all generations, plant mulberry trees, and run a travelling teahouse connected to local cultural activities. The main goal of the workcamp is to expand a local nature reserve, support the creation of a new park, and contribute to the creation of a mural that enhances public space. Through these activities, the project supports UN Sustainable Development Goal 15: Life on Land by promoting biodiversity, care for natural areas, and sustainable use of the landscape.

Location & Leisure

The workcamp takes place in a small village surrounded by nature on the edge of the Blaník Protected Landscape Area. The site itself is a restored wetland biotope with pools, renewed in 2024 to retain water in the landscape and support endangered plant and animal species. The area also includes nearby historical sites such as a former gold mine and chateaux.

Leisure activities may include a trip to the natural swimming pool in Louňovice and a hike to the legendary Blaník mountain, known for its myths and a lookout tower at the top. Volunteers can also visit Zlatodol Roudný, a historic site that was once one of the most profitable gold mines in Europe.
