Khuan Mit School

Khuan Mit village, Cha-Uat district- Nakorn Sri Thammarat province, Thailand

In partnership with

After a successful first 2 days English camp at the small rural School of Ban Khuan Mit in July 2025, we decided to renew the experience with bringing international volunteers for a full workcamp of 12 days. The English teacher Sakina, initiator of the project, is a former DaLaa international volunteer. She managed to involve Mr. Touchide Jutiprapak, the school director, the other teachers, and even a part of the local community of this remote area of South Thailand to welcome the volunteers and bring a wonderful experience to the students. The main focus is to provide an open window to the world through English language activities; the immersion in the community will be very present.

Description of the Work

The main role of the volunteers is to conduct non-formal English classes and organize fun activities for students aged 7 to 15. Volunteers will work in groups of at least 2–3 per class, with around three classes each day. In addition, extra activities will be arranged for the students during their free time and/or in the evening.
Volunteers will also take part in community activities, such as sports competitions and potluck gatherings, which help strengthen relationships between the school, students, and local residents.

Accommodation & Food

Volunteers will sleep in the classroom. There will be only some yoga mats, pillows, and mosquito nets. We suggest you bring your own sleeping bag, inflatable mattress, or another yoga mat. It’s ok if you don’t bring any of those, but you need to be sure that you will be comfortable in such condition.
There are basic toilets, showers and a kitchen at the school canteen.

Location & Leisure

Ban Khuan Mit School is located in South Thailand, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, about 20 kilometers from the district town of Cha-uat. The school lies on a high plain with a hot and humid climate. The surrounding community is religiously diverse, with both Thai Buddhists and Thai Muslims living together peacefully. It is also situated close to a mountainous area with a big dam and a beautiful waterfall, at the border area of three provinces: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, and Trang, near a local well-known rafting attraction.

Requirements

The volunteers should be ready to stay in a local area, and to adapt to the local conditions with only basic facilities. Be prepared that very few local people are able to speak English. Volunteers should be able to be with the kids, and prepare some games and materials for teaching.

Appointment

Meeting point: Sunday 5th of July at 10.00 AM at Hat Yai international airport
