Hug the Village

Balıkesir, Turkiye

In partnership with

This workcamp is organized in cooperation with Emendere Köyü Muhtarlığı, the local village administration of Emendere, a rural village in Sındırgı district of Balıkesir.
Following the recent earthquake damage in the region, parts of the village infrastructure have been affected. The aim of the volunteering is to encourage the village community to improve common areas and revive shared public spaces. The main goal of this project is to restore and renovate the old village school building and bring it back into use for community-based courses and activities for local residents.
Through this collaboration, volunteers will directly contribute to strengthening rural community life and supporting local solidarity.

Main tasks include:
-Renovation of the old village school building:
-Sanding and restoring school desks
-Cleaning classrooms and indoor areas
-Painting walls
-Preparing the space for future public courses and community use
-Village improvement activities:
-Cleaning common areas within the village
-Removing rubble, stones, and debris from roadsides

Location & Leisure

The camp will take place in Emendere Village, located in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir.
Sındırgı is known for its thermal springs, which are believed to be beneficial for skin conditions. However, the village itself is not a well-known tourist destination, and part of the project’s spirit is to help increase awareness of the area through intercultural exchange During free time, volunteers can:
-Spend time in the village and interact with local residents
-Explore the natural surroundings
-Visit thermal pools in Sındırgı (at their own expense)
The camp offers a meaningful rural experience, close contact with local people, and the opportunity to leave a visible, long-term impact on a small community.

Appointment

Volunteers are expected to arrive independently in Sındırgı (approximately 1 hour by bus from Balıkesir Bus Terminal).
Meeting Point: Sındırgı Bus Terminal.
Volunteers will be picked up there by local representatives and transferred to the village.
