Ankara Metropolitan Municipality.

Description of the Work

BAKAP is a project aimed at helping Ankara's producers, who are forced to produce their crops at high costs and sell them at low prices, to break free from this cycle and get back on their feet through rural development projects that revitalize the city's economy. Ankara Metropolitan Municipality contributes to the economy by distributing various agricultural products grown at the 3,500-decare BAKAP Agricultural Campus free of charge to local producers and small family businesses. Volunteers in this project will assist with environmental and rural development work. They will also participate in training and cultural exchange activities at municipal youth centers.

Accommodation & Food

Volunteers will stay in 2-3 person rooms at a youth dormitory belonging to Ankara Metropolitan Municipality. Meals will also be served there. On some days, they may stay in tents in a rural development area.

Location & Leisure

Ankara is the capital and political center of Türkiye. Although not a major tourist destination, it is home to many noteworthy museums and historical and cultural sites. Being in the city center offers opportunities to participate in city tours. Ankara is also where our GSM office is located. Social activities with our young volunteers and other partners in the city can also be expected.

Host Organization

GSM – Youth Services Centre is a non-governmental and non-profit youth organisation that has been founded by a group of young people in 1985 in Ankara, Turkey. Since its first day, GSM has actively worked in youth field and until today it has created and successfully implemented many national and international youth projects. GSM is a pioneer organisation in the field of youth-work in Turkey. Our main aim is to support common understanding, peace, friendship and intercultural learning among young people coming from different cultural backgrounds by organising international youth activities. We believe that these intercultural activities give a space to young people to share their experiences and own cultural richness, which could help young people to break down any barriers and prejudice.
