Mulyo Asri Mangrove Project

Pekalongan Mangrove is a project targeting endangered villages or areas located on coastal lines in Pekalongan. This project is a sustainable project organized by GREAT in cooperation with local communities called Banawa Sekar to answer the needs of preserving the coastal side of Pekalongan. Pekalongan City is one of the directed affected by global climate change among
many of islands in the world. The project is preserving natural diversity and sea shore from erosion because of significantly mangrove cutting in the 70’s-80s along with strong waves from the ocean

Description of the Work

Planting mangroves, harvesting mangroves seeds, seedling mangroves.  Sharing environmental education with local people and children  Conducting school visits and universities for environmental education  Running a green campaign in the city center, managing the mangrove fruits to be drinks or foods, and promoting it.  Exchange culture between local people and volunteers  Learning about Mangroves  Learning how to make mangrove syrups

Accommodation & Food

 House of local people, located near the mangrove park.
 Shared living room with other participants.
 A sleeping bag is needed, mosquito lotion should be applied before you sleep.
 No WiFi
 No fridge, Self-cooking by the volunteers with Indonesian ingredients

Pekalongan is a cultural city in Indonesia. As a central of the Batik industry, Pekalongan has a lot of Batik factories both traditional and modern industry.

From Jakarta Soekarno Hatta Airport take a DAMRI bus to Gambir Train Station. From Gambir Train Station you can choose any suitable train to Pekalongan Train Station. The journey takes about 5 hours.

Host Organization

GREAT stands for Gerakan Kerelawanan Internasional or International Voluntary Service Movement. GREAT is a national NGO/ association concerns in youth issue and international voluntary service (IVS). In conducting its activity, GREAT partners with organizations/ institutions both within and outside the country. GREAT motto is think globally, act locally and alone we change ourselves each, and together we change the world. GREAT is established since 2015 by a group of volunteer the IVS activists in Indonesia. Background of GREAT is a great determination, a strong belief and a shared dream that the IVS is a movement that can provide access to the youth in particular, and anyone to become agent of change locally, nationally and globally towards world peace. GREAT adalah singkatan dari Gerakan Kerelawanan Internasional. GREAT merupakan LSM nasional yang berfokus pada ise kepemudaan dan kegiatan kerelawanan internasional. Dalam menjalankan kegiatannya, GREAt bermitra dengan organisasi / institusi baik nasional maupun internasional. Motto dari GREAT adalah "berpikir secara global, beraksi di lingkup lokal" dan "sendiri kita mengubah diri sendiri, bersama kita mengubah dunia". GREAT didirikan pada tahun 2015 oleh sekelompok relawan yang telah lama aktif dalam dunia kerelawanan internasional di Indonesia. Latar belakang dari GREAT sebuah kebulatan tekad, keyakinan yang kuat, dan impian bersama bahwa kegiatan kerelawanan internasional adalah sebuah gerakan yang dapat memberikan jalan bagi pemuda pada khususnya dan semua orang dalam menjadi agen perubahan untuk lingkup lokal, nasional, dan global menuju sebuah perdamaian dunia.
