The camp will focus on environmental restoration and maintenance of hand-built dams in swamp/wetland areas in Central Finland, as well as on maintenance of meadows, using traditional tools such as a scythe. The camp organiser, Central Finland District of the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation is part of the oldest environmental association in Finland with large knowledge of nature protection and Finnish forestry history and development.
Description of the Work
Rewilding and maintenance of hand-made dams/barrages in swamp areas, as well as mowing/grass cutting by hand in meadow areas. All areas of work are first fully taught to volunteers and constantly supervised by camp organiser representatives. In addition, a climate-themed art workshop will be held during the camp.
Location & Leisure
In the Ecovillage there are lots of free time opportunities, such as swimming and playing sports.
Study themes of the project
Natural biodiversity and nature protection locally. Additional study themes possible during the camptime.
Requirements
The camp will consist of physical work and therefore, good basic health (especially in the back and leg areas) is needed from the participants. Also, volunteers should prepare with their own outdoor clothing that protects arms and legs, outdoor shoes and rubber boots (swamp areas are wet, and sudden deep spots are possible). In addition, good items to bring along are hats and/or scarves, mosquito repellent and/or mosquito net hats for head protection.
