Brezovica, Serbia

Notes

The camp is intended for volunteers who are ready for basic camp living conditions, including staying and sleeping in tents, as well as teamwork and spending time in nature. The application must contain a mandatory letter of motivation, so that we can get to know the candidates better and understand their motivation for participating in this camp.

En partenariat avec

The "City Children" association based in Novi Sad acts as a local, informal, non-profit association focused on working with children and young people through educational, sports and socially beneficial activities. Through its programmes, the association encourages an active lifestyle, volunteerism, informal learning and participation of young people in the development of the local community. A special emphasis is placed on inclusion, teamwork and the acquisition of practical knowledge through experience.
Since the founder of the association was born in Čačak and knows firsthand the difficulties faced by children from rural and smaller urban areas, our mission is to provide them with a space where they can grow, learn and develop their teamwork skills and physical abilities. This is precisely why the "City Children" association chose to organize its first volunteer camp in the village of Brezovice, close to Čačak, in order to provide children from urban areas with a refuge in nature and to breathe new life into a school that has had no students for a long time. In addition, the association is very committed to ecology and the development of agriculture, and volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in the work of nearby farms in order to properly experience life in the countryside and better connect with the local community.
The international volunteer camp is organized by a team of young people with significant experience in working with children and youth, and although this is their first volunteer camp, their commitment to this idea makes this camp the right choice for any volunteer who appreciates good energy and enthusiasm.

Description du travail

During the camp, volunteers will be involved in various activities of arranging and maintaining the area of the "Pčelice" (Little bees) children's camp, as well as the rural household in its immediate surrounding, which is functionally and substantively connected to the camp and represents an important part of everyday life in the camp. The work will be combined, so that the volunteers will alternate between activities in the camp and at the rural household every day.
Planned activities include painting indoor and outdoor spaces (interior and exterior of the house on the property), painting auxiliary buildings, making and painting children's obstacles and props, as well as making large panels (posters) for drawing and creative work within the school space. Horticultural and basic agricultural works are also planned: planting roses, removing invasive plants, mowing and maintaining the grounds, arranging the forest path, creating and installing botanical signboards along the path, as well as creating ecological elements such as bird and squirrel houses and hotels for insects that contribute to biodiversity. Work with children will not be in focus, but at least one day of children's visit to the camp is planned. Volunteers will work about 5-6 hours a day, mostly in the morning or early afternoon. During the stay, a joint trip to Čačak with a tour of the sights will be organized.
Volunteers will be supported by the "Pčelice" camp staff, camp organizers, members of the village household who will be present throughout the camp, as well as local coordinators. Activities are designed as teamwork in a pleasant, supportive and motivating atmosphere.

Hébergement & Nourriture

During the camp, the volunteers will be accommodated at the site of the children's camp "Pčelice", in tents. The camp is located in a natural environment, which allows volunteers to stay outdoors, have closer contact with nature and live together in camping conditions. Basic sanitary and hygienic conditions will be provided within the camp. In case of unfavorable weather conditions, there are conditions for sleeping indoors on farms in the immediate vicinity of the camp. Volunteers are obliged to bring sleeping bags, while tents and sleeping matts will be provided by the camp organizers.
Meals will be prepared in groups by the volunteers and during the first day of the camp a joint agreement and cooking schedule will be made. Each day, a couple or a small group of volunteers will be in charge of preparing the meal, which contributes to team spirit and getting to know each other.
The organizers of the camp will provide all the necessary food for the preparation of meals, in accordance with the agreement with the volunteers and their nutritional needs. Vegetarian options will be provided. However, due to the remote location and communal nature of the cooking, we are unable to guarantee the complete absence of cross-contamination or to fully adapt the diet for specific medical conditions such as celiac disease, severe allergies or similar restrictions. We ask volunteers with such needs to contact us in advance so that we can evaluate together whether the camp suits their needs.

Lieu & Loisirs

Children's camp "Pčelice", where the volunteers will spend 14 days, is located in the village of Brezovica on the Jelica mountain. It is surrounded by nature, forest and clean air, ideal for a peaceful stay and work in a natural environment. Jelica Mountain is a protected natural area, known for its beautiful hiking trails and silence, and during the camp an excursion to the nearby town of Čačak and surrounding sights will be organized.
